Gold Coast Rugby Carnival 2011

George Smith

Thanks to the generosity of Mal Terbutt (Father of Hamish Year 10), the TAS 16s Rugby Team enjoyed a special training session with Wallaby Legend George Smith. George, who retired from representative rugby at the beginning of the season, is Australia’s most capped forward with 110 tests. At a charity auction last year, Mal won a training session with George and rather than take it on himself, he kindly donated the session to his son’s (Hamish) team. George spent 2 hours with the boys, assisting with individual and unit skills as well as developing game plans.

After training, George discussed the life of a professional athlete and the responsibilities of being a Wallaby with the players. This was a fantastic opportunity and one that will not be forgotten by the boys.
