MID-SEASON RUGBY NEWSObviously it's been a successful first half of the season for TAS Rugby and congratulations to all involved for their efforts. The feeling in the wider school community has been extremely positive and the sportsmanship and attitude of our young men is something that makes us very proud of our offering. I wish to thank all those who've contributed to the season thus far from the TAS Rugby Club, to our wonderful parents who've supported the catering both at the games and functions, to our coaches and managers, the wonderful support we've received on the sidelines and of course the players themselves. I trust that the goodwill and support of the broader TAS community will continue to foster all that is good about school boy sport! Holiday Rugby SuccessCongratulations to Jock Armstron, Luke Burton and Lachlan Creighton on their selections as a reult of outstanding performances at the NSW Championships to compete at the National School Boy Rugby Championships. Jock was selected for the Combined States Team which finished 3rd Overall, Luke was selected for NSW II and Lachlan narrowly missed a chance to attend being selected as Shadow Reserve for NSW. Also Callum Morris has been selected for the Lloyd McDermott Indigenous Rugby Side to compete at the National U16s Championships in the September Holidays. TERM 3 RUGBYA Busy one for all. Term 3 kicks off this weekend with TAS hosting The Kings School and Sir Thomas Riches School from the UK. These high quality fixtures set the scene for the Term ahead, where our boys will experience week in and out high quality matches. A Highlight of the Term will certainly occur on the 6th August when we host St Joseph's College Hunters Hill at TAS for our Back to Backfield Day where we are encouraging all past boys and families of the school and SJC for that matter to attend the days fixtures highlighted by our 1st XV taking the field at 12:15pm followed by a function in the Hoskins Centre for all in attendance. The program for Term 3 is listed below and as always please go to the TAS Website for further information! 23rd July vs Kings (H)
BACK TO BACKFIELD DAY 6th August (Invite Below!)As a part of our exciting new step in entering the GPS season for whole school fixtures we wanted to celebrate this exciting time in the schools history on the 6th August as TAS hosts one of Australia’s leading rugby schools, St. Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill. The matches against St. Joseph’s however, will hold special meaning with many past rugby players, old Boys and past & present families from both schools attending to witness the ignition of an intense competitive rivalry. After a full card of fixtures, culminating with the TAS 1stXV taking the field against ‘Joeys’ at 12:15pm on TAS Backfield, the TAS Rugby Club will host all visitors to the School for a ‘Back to Backfield’ event in the TAS Hoskins Centre from 1:30pm to 5pm. This will be a chance for everyone to come together, re-live the day’s successes and rue missed opportunities but above all to enjoy the company of old, and hopefully, some new friends. Drinks and refreshments will be served with a cash bar for any alcoholic beverages. Steve Sewell, President of TAS Rugby Club said, “Rugby is really a community experience. The rivalry on the field of play is one thing but a very important aspect of the sport has always been the ability to come together after the whistle to enjoy each other’s company as respected members of the rugby family. In our small way we hope through hosting Back to Backfield that TAS Rugby Club will contribute to building that family bond.” Back to Backfield - invitation TAS Rugby Club CommitteePresident: Steve SewellVice President: Greig Stier Secretary: Carol Chambers Treasurer: Gus McDouall PandF Executive Rep: Aileen MacDonald
