Introduction

Welcome to TAS Junior School - Term 1 2012
From The Head of Junior School - Mr Ian Lloyd

To all our new and returning parents and students, a very warm welcome to Junior School for 2012.
As in previous years, a key goal for Junior School will be to strive together to build strong connections between school and family. From this foundation, working together, we will work to engage each student by providing appropriate challenges in a caring, safe and happy environment.
We believe that happy students learn. Your child is encouraged to take part in this process of learning, one supported by highly experienced and dedicated staff using first class facilities. We welcome you all to join with us in what is a challenging and exciting journey.  Please feel free to contact us, or simply drop in. We are all looking forward to a busy and exciting year in 2012.

Junior School Staff Portfolios - 2012

Mrs Lucy Adams, Transition

Child Care Certificate TAFE. I have been lucky enough to be working at TAS for 10 years. In that time I have had 18 months in the IT Dept which allowed me to meet and work with the older boys and all the staff members. Before starting at TAS, I was working for 4 years with The Challenge Foundation, then with children of Special Needs at a local public school for another 4 years.
I have two boys who have gone through TAS, one going on to University at UQ to do an AgDip and the other is in his fourth year of a Building/Construction apprenticeship. I enjoy reading English history novels, attending the veggie garden and working with my husband on our farm. I also enjoy travel, friends company and a good laugh over a meal.

Mrs Tania Ball, Transition

BEd (Early Childhood) UNE, BTeach (Early Childhood) CSU. From the age of eight I dreamed of becoming a teacher and spent much of my teenage years babysitting, coaching and volunteering with younger children. Upon finishing my degree I began teaching at Tooraweenah Public School, a small school from Kindergarten to Year 6. After moving to Armidale in 1999 I enjoyed 2 years at Tiny Town Child Care Centre in the Preschool room.
I have taught the Transition class at TAS since 2001. I thoroughly enjoy preparing children for Kindergarten and helping them foster a love of learning by developing self-confidence in their own individual abilities. I am honoured to be able to share this special Transition year with both the children and their parents and am always proud of the enormous progress each and every child makes. My husband Michael is the Agriculture Teacher at TAS and we have 3 children. A daughter in Year 4 at PLC and two boys at TAS in Year 2 and Kindergarten.

Lana Bromwich, Year 1

Dip Teach: UNE.  I completed my degree at Lock Haven University Pennsylvania in America as part of an exchange programme.  I have 14 years teaching experience, teaching in state and independent schools, which range from Kindergarten to Year 4. I have created stage performances for our annual concerts and thrive on the opportunity to foster children's creativity.
Ron and I live on property near Kentucky, with 1 child at PLC and 3 young adults who are engaged in University study. My interests include travelling, visual arts, outdoor sports, coaching soccer and watching old movies.

Mrs Lesley Brown, Learning Support

BA Dip Ed (Macquarie University).   I have been teaching at TAS for 5 years now having started teaching in Broken Hill in 1976. During my career I have been involved in early, primary and secondary education as a mother, volunteer, causal teacher, owner of Kumon Armidale and private tutor in Literacy and Maths. My passion is for helping children with learning difficulties and I believe strongly that every child can achieve in their own way.

Mrs Kirsty Brundson, Year 5

DipTeach (Kuringai College). After many years of teaching, mainly in small schools in different parts of NSW, I began teaching in the Junior School in 2000. I am currently teaching Year 5 and have previously taught Kindergarten, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 at TAS. I am also the Junior School Sports Co-ordinator and enjoy seeing the achievements students make in all areas.
I am married with three children and enjoy participating in lots of sports including swimming and hockey. I enjoy watching any sports my own children are playing. My other interests are reading, gardening and helping with home renovations that my husband undertakes.

Fiona Chappell, Administration Assistant

Diploma in Tourism. I have worked at TAS for the past two and half years in the Junior School and enjoy engaging with the children and parents. Prior to starting employment at TAS, I worked for the Academic Director of the Faculty of the Professions, and SiMMER, the developers of QuickSmart at UNE.
After working for 10 years in Sydney for Network Seven and IMG, I enjoyed travelling abroad. I have settled back in Armidale and have a son who has just completed Transition at TAS and is looking forward to his first year of 'big' School.

Ms Lizi Hartley, Extension and Enrichment

BA Ed - Art and Design (Hons), Mini COGE (Sydney). The colourful world of education has been inspiring me for twelve years now. Since graduating in the UK, I have been fortunate to have worked in the public, private and special needs sectors in England, Sri Lanka and Australia. These positions have offered me the opportunity to teach in a vast array of academic environs from Pre-School to Year 10. The journey has been rich and exciting for me and I endeavour to provide a similar path of learning for all my students.
For the past two years TAS has been my professional home where I have been blessed and exposed to many facets of the school. My current roles in the Junior School have me wearing two hats: the Extension and Enrichment teacher for Kindergarten to Year 5 and the Visual Arts teacher for Years 3 to 5. Both provide an opportunity to nurture creativity and higher-order thinking while encouraging an appetite for intrepidness.

Mr Luke Polson, Year 4

BEd. (Primary) UNE; Cert III WRAP (Castle Hill)   I commenced teaching at The Armidale School in January 2011. This year I am one of the Year 4 classroom teachers. When I am away from the classroom I enjoy different roles at TAS, including working with the dedicated students in the newly formed, 'Hoskins Centre Tech Crew'. I am Master in Charge of Tennis and enjoy playing for the TAS 1st XI Hockey team.

Mr Alexander Portell, Year 4

BEd (Primary) UNE. Following a distinguished career as a chef, 2012 is now my fifth year teaching in the TAS Junior School. With key interests in Visual Arts, Writing and ICT Integration, I enjoy creating interesting, challenging and relevant learning experiences for primary age groups. In addition to my Junior School commitments I have relished the opportunity to develop Hockey at TAS in my role as MIC Hockey.

Mrs Anne Trenerry, Kindergarten

DipTeach, Grad Cert WRAP. I have been a teacher at TAS since 2004 having previously taught at the coast and for many years in north west NSW. I have taught the full breadth of primary grades but have a particular passion for early years teaching. I have been privileged to be the Kindergarten teacher since 2008 and delight in being part of each student's growth and development. I am married to David and have 3 children.

Mrs Veronica Waters, Year 3

B.Ed, DipTeach (UNE). I currently have 20 years Primary teaching experience, I have taught in Gunnedah, several state schools in Armidale and spent 16 enjoyable years teaching at TAS Junior School. Whilst at TAS, I have taught classes from Kindergarten through to Year 4. I have taken on different roles including mentoring new staff members, coaching sports teams, English  and Science KLA Co-ordinator and have been ‘care taker’ of the Junior School when required.
I am married with 2 children. I have a daughter who attends PLC and a son who is in his final year of  the TAS Junior School. I enjoy reading, bush walking, cooking and spending quality time with my family.

Mrs Christine Wright, Year 2

DipTeach (ACAE). I have had 24 years teaching experience from Kindergarten to Year 6 in both public and private schools. One of those years was spent teaching in British Columbia, Canada 2006 on a teacher exchange programme.
My husband and I have lived and worked in Armidale for most of our married lives. We have 2 daughters who both loved their time at TAS Junior School. Stephanie is now in her second year at Griffith University, Gold Coast and Brittany is in Year 11 at PLC.
