Collecting Children After Sports Training

Sport training in the Junior School goes from 3.45 - 4.45pm. At the end of training, coaches are to take their teams to the undercover area so children can collect their bags. Those children in Years 3, 4 and 5 may have to go upstairs to collect their bags if they are taking their laptops home. Alternatively, coaches may choose to ask their team to take their school bags with them, to where they are training, to avoid this procedure.
After the children have their bags, all coaches are to escort their teams to the Chapel Street Turning Circle collection area. One member of staff will remain on duty in this area until 5pm, when any children not collected, will be escorted to After School Care. After School Care charges will apply from this time forward.
Parents will then collect their children from there.
Please note: Sports training is NEVER cancelled. If it is wet the coaches organise indoor sessions.

Guidelines for Sports Points Allocation

At the Junior School Speech Day, Gold, Silver and Bronze Sports Awards will normally be presented to outstanding Junior School athletes who have competed in a wide cross-section of sports and achieved significant results.

The number of awards presented each year will vary depending on the ability of the children. In order to maintain the integrity of these awards, it is generally expected that one or two Gold Awards, two or three Silver Awards and two or three Bronze Awards will presented in both the Primary Division and Infants Division.

The award recipients will be determined by The Junior School Sports Co-ordinator (based on the ‘Sports Points Allocation’ system described below) in consultation with The Head of Junior School.

Sports Points Allocation

This system was devised after consultation with the Head of Junior School, the Junior School staff and the Sportsmaster.

  1. There will be a Primary Division, (Yrs 3, 4 and 5) and an Infants Division (K, 1 and 2)
  2. Where appropriate, there will be a male and female recipient in each division.
  3. Points are accumulated based on performance and representation in the current school year.

Points can be gained in any of the following areas:

8 points  - (four children may be nominated, by the coaching staff, to get points from 8, 6, 4, and 2, based on sportsmanship and outstanding skill)
Winter sport
Summer sport

4 points
Age swimming champion
NCSA Swimming
CIS Swimming
Age Athletics Champion
NCSA Athletics
CIS Athletics
Representative sports (This must be a sport directly linked to the sport you play at TAS- eg, hockey, basketball, cricket, soccer)
1st Cross Country
1st Triathlon
PSSA Cross Country

2 points
Runner up swimming champion
Runner up athletics champion
2nd Cross-country
2nd Triathlon

1 point
3rd Cross Country
3rd Triathlon

This allows all children the possibility of gaining a maximum of 12 points in any given sport i.e.
Swimming  (Champion, NCSA, CIS) - 12 points
Athletics  (Champion, NCSA, CIS) - 12 points
Winter Sport + Rep sport – 12 points,
Summer sport + Rep sport – 12 points,
Cross Country (TAS + PSSA) + Triathlon – 12 points.

Therefore the maximum points achievable per athlete would be 60 points for each year.
