ABOUT THE CAMP

DO YOU WANT
TO COME?

FOR 2008 CAMPERS
|
How do I apply?
If the Camp looks
interesting to you, read around this website until you are sure that
you understand what it is about.
When you have done this and if you have decided you have what it takes
to do the Forensic Camp then it's time to something about it.
- Sit down with
your parents and discuss it.
- Read again the
'How we select Campers' section of the website. This
is vital.
- Prepare the,
'Why I want to come to the Camp' essay and the 'Academic Performance'
summary. We want you to do this yourself because we will be evaluating
what you say and how you say it as well as how you present it. These
can be done in Word or any other word processing application ready
for attaching to your email. (Please note that if you are using an
unusual Word Processing Program OR the latest version of MSW ie Word
2007 (docx files) then please save your documents as RTF - select:
FILE, SAVE AS, under the FORMAT window select RTF - many thanks).
- Approach an appropriate
teacher and ask him/her to support your application. We would like
his/her opinion as to whether or not you have the qualities that would
allow you to benefit from the Camp. Ask your teacher to email a brief
supporting note to our email address. Note; the teacher's supporting
note is not obligatory but it will be helpful. If there are a number
of applicants from your school, it will be acceptable if the teacher
writes one note including the names of all those students he/she wishes
to support and emails it to us.
- Email your application
(ie the, 'Why I want to come to the Camp' essay and the 'Academic
Performance' summary) to us (forensiccamps@bigpond.com). We will be
sending you emails from time to time in the period before the Camp
so if your application is being sent from a computer that you don’t
generally use, please include your preferred email address in the
text of your email. When we receive your application we will send
you an email acknowledging its receipt. If you don’t get this
within a week please resend your application.
- It is important
that you name the attached documents so that we are able to find them
among the 150-odd documents from other applicants, so ensure that
your own surname is in the document name
as shown below. The subject of the email must be named as shown in
the example below (but only of course if your name is Brown!).

What
happens after my application has been received?
- All applications
will be assessed in the order that they are received.
- If the Camp Management
forms the view that the applicant does have the qualities that will
allow him/her to benefit from the Camp, the application will be accepted
and an Application Acceptance Email will be sent.
- If insufficient
information has been provided or if the Camp Management believes that
the applicant has not presented him/her self as well as he/she could
have, an email will be sent suggesting that the applicant may like
to resubmit the application which then goes to the back of the queue.
- If, on the basis
of the information provided or the manner of presentation, the Camp
Management believes that the applicant is unlikely to benefit from
the Camp, an email will be promptly sent notifying the rejection of
the application.
What
happens after my application has been accepted?
- Attached to your
Acceptance Email will be an Excel document that we will use to collect
all of the information that we need to have to run the Camp (personal
details, medical details, travel details, your preference for your
role in the court trials etc). Please enter all of the required information
without delay and email it as an attachment to forensiccamps@bigpond.com.
Its receipt will be promptly acknowledged by email so if you do not
receive this please resend.
- Please send the
payment of the Camp fees within ten (10) days of the dispatch of the
Acceptance Email. Your place at the Camp will be held for this period.
See |COSTS|
for payment options.
About three to four
weeks before the Camp, a copy of the Forensic Manual will be mailed
to you.
Downloadable
Documents
We have provided
downloadable pdf copies of the documents that were mailed out to schools.
You might like to print a copy and pass it on to someone you know who
might be interested.
