Leadership is found in those whose convictions are rooted in personal responsibility, kindness and justice. It recognises that successful leaders are driven by a desire to be of service to others and to nurture, guide, develop and help them to improve and succeed.
A range of leadership skills are used to influence and enlist the support of individuals, teams or communities in the achievement of a shared objective.
The Year 11 IDEALS Week focuses on Leadership and Careers. Given the boys and girls are on the cusp of becoming the senior leaders in the School, it is an appropriate moment to help them understand what leadership is, how they can develop their own skills and then become positive leaders at School and beyond.
We will explore the complex notion of leadership – how it means many things to many people – and how we can all lead in different ways. We will explore how, underpinning all effective leadership, though, is the recognition that successful leaders are driven by a desire to be of service to others and to nurture, guide, develop and help them to improve and succeed.
We will also be using this week to support students in gaining a better understanding of the careers landscape and skills required in securing employment and other positions such as a place in a university residential college.
Opportunities for student leadership in the school’s community are fostered and students are engendered with skills that will then play out through adulthood.
The purpose of the week is to bring the Round Square IDEALS to life through a range of real and genuine experiences that are not encountered through the regular curricular and co-curricular programs.
