Students in Years 6-11 may take town leave once during the school week on Friday. Students may walk to town without supervision but are strongly encouraged to travel in groups. Additional leave can be organised via the Head of House only. Students are to be clean and tidy in appearance. Year 12 students may take town leave on Monday and Friday and may be permitted extra leave at the discretion of the Head of House.
Armidale Show Leave
Leave allowances for the Armidale Show vary between Year groups.
Students may seek leave to visit boarders at NEGS or PLC. Dress is neat casuals. Students visiting are to introduce themselves to the Mistress of the relevant boarding house and at NEGS are permitted to be on the lawns in front of the boarding House, or the House visitors’ room if the weather is inclement.
Year 12 Dinner Leave
Arrangements for Saturday night dinner leave must be made through and approved by the Head of House. Dress – neat casuals. As these students are often nearly adults, the level of supervision required is less. As a consequence, the School will permit students to have Dinner Leave in town unsupervised on the understanding that they adhere to pre-arranged hours and do not consume alcohol.
Cinema leave may be granted by Head of House to Year 12 on a Saturday evening, and may also be granted on Friday evenings at the discretion of Head of House. Younger students may be permitted to attend the cinema for a Saturday afternoon matinee.
More information can be found in the Boarders’ Handbook.
