Responsible for the oversight and management of the six TAS boarding houses, the Director of Boarding provides an additional layer of support for Heads of House, parents and students, and is a member of the School Executive team.
Promoting a climate where staff and students share mutual respect, care, trust and concern; providing and managing the necessary expectations in terms of student behaviour, creating opportunities for boarders to develop personal responsibility and facilitating appropriate social, cultural and other activities both within and outside the school, are all areas of focus of the Director of Boarding, Mr David Drain.
Mr Drain has been at TAS since 2014 as the Head of Croft House through to 2019. During this time he has remained a Committee Member of the New South Wales Australian Boarding Schools Association. Mr Drain teaches Business and has previously acted in the role of Director of Pastoral Care. Mr Drain has been heavily involved in the schools co-curricular program, particularly Rugby, being the MIC of Rugby from 2016 – 2017 and coaching the 2nd XV from 2015 – 2017. Mr Drain has held the position of a Combined GPS Rugby Selector since 2010.
Prior to working at TAS, Mr Drain worked at St Joseph’s College Hunters Hill (of which he is an Old Boy) where he was the Year 11 Assistant Boarding Coordinator. Mr Drain was also heavily involved in the co-curricular program at St Jospeh’s College being the Convenor of College Athletics from 2011 – 2013.
Mr Drain worked in Accounting, Finance and Sports Marketing prior to commencing teaching in 2010. He lived and worked in Sydney, Edinburgh and London during this time for companies such as KPMG, Goldman Sachs and The Royal Bank of Scotland.
