TAS Rugby Carnival

This event has been cancelled for 2020. Please refer to the notification below. We appreciate your understanding.

Dear TASRC Teams, Sponsors and Supporters,

Taking into consideration the new announcements and recommendations from a number of Australian health authorities and government agencies concerning the ongoing developments of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and the responsibilities we have as a school for the health of the people in our community, the TAS Executive have decided to cancel the TAS Rugby Carnival which was planned for 17,18 and 19 April.

We know how much this Carnival means to our students, the wider Armidale community, the teams, clubs, supporters and sponsors and we did not make this decision lightly.  However, both this signature event brings many thousands of people in to Armidale and we are very aware that this would increase exposure to possible inadvertent carriers of Coronavirus. Many sporting fixtures are under scrutiny from those authorities with greater knowledge of the risks of this virus and while we are saddened by our decision to cancel the TASRC, we are also very aware of the more serious potential threat to the whole community by running it.

Of course we will refund in full all deposits to teams and clubs that have already registered for this year’s Carnival. The date for next year’s TAS Rugby Carnival will be Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 April 2021. (For your information, Easter in 2021 will be 2 – 5 April 2021)

Thank you for your patience and understanding with this decision and I hope that you are taking care of yourselves at this time of uncertainty. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with our TASRC Administrator Gaye Piper on her email [email protected] if you have any further questions.

With best wishes

Will Caldwell
TASRC Co-ordinator

The Armidale School Rugby Carnival (TASRC)

Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 April, 2021

The Armidale School Rugby Carnival is the largest Under 12s rugby carnival held in Australia. Each year this event attracts over 1000 young rugby enthusiasts and their coaches, along with committed families and supporters, who make the journey to Armidale. Visitors come from the Sunshine Coast in the north, the NSW Southern Highlands in the south and many coastal and inland centres in between. Armidale’s beautiful autumn colours provide the backdrop to the event, which utilises The Armidale School’s outstanding ovals and facilities.

In 2021 the TASRC will be held over the weekend of 17 & 18 April. This is a wonderful opportunity for players aged 11 or 12, to experience a regional tour including five games, played over two days. Over the weekend, teams play five competitive games, pooled against teams of matching standard, from across Australia. Team members and supporters enjoy two days of rugby in the beautiful city of Armidale, located in the New England region of New South Wales. Armidale, Australia’s highest city is approximately five hours from both Brisbane and Sydney on the New England Highway. The carnival relies on the local school communities of TAS, New England Girls’ School (NEGS) and Presbyterian Ladies’ College (PLC) in Armidale, working with the broader TAS community. The all-inclusive TASRC package for team members is great value and includes: accommodation and meals for the weekend, comprehensive insurance, a team photograph and a carnival cap.

The focus of the TASRC is on sportsmanship, and the highly coveted Canterbury Team of the Carnival award is presented each year to the team displaying outstanding performance and sportsmanship on, and off, the field. In 2019 the TASRC hosted 51 different schools and clubs, with well over 1000 budding Wallabies and their management staff joining in the event.

Each year we look forward to welcoming the visiting teams, along with the many families and supporters that flock to Armidale over the carnival weekend.

All enquiries for this event should be directed to the TASRC Administrator, Mrs Gaye Piper on 0410 924 191 or [email protected]
